Schubert Music takes over Celsius Management

press release
November 1, 2017

Andreas Schubert, founder and owner of Schubert Music Publishing and Schubert Music Agency (SMA), will take over Celsius Management GmbH from its founder, partner and former Managing Director Markus Hartmann on 1st November 2017.

Markus Hartmann founded his artist management company in 2004, the first acts including Tocotronic, Blumfeld and Apoptygma Berzerk. Other well known acts were added to the roster, such as Guano Apes, Stanfour, the finalists of The Voice Of Germany and The Voice Kids, Ivy Quainoo and the company also consulted for the likes of The Common Linnets. In team with the artists, a worldwide network of part-nerships emerged; it was an early task of Celsius Management to serve all relevant markets and all disciplines of the market in a competent and self-sufficient manner. The company’s record includes 12 gold records, 3 Echo Awards, 121 tours with nearly 1000 concerts in 27 countries, 137 record releases and a total of 114 weeks on the charts.

Markus Hartmann: “Artist management is on many levels one of the most complex challenges in the music business, a task that has to find solutions on a daily basis in the artistic, economic and private spheres. I am grateful to have learned and experi-enced so much in the 13 years with artists who have become friends. The moment when an idea in a private circle actually becomes a hit is one of the most beautiful moments in this business. Andreas Schubert and his worldwide team are the perfect partners to lead the company and the artists into the future and to set new goals. The era in which Artist Managers can be the game changers is just beginning.”

Andreas Schubert: “It fits in with our own image as an active, productive music pub-lisher that likes to support authors and artists who work with us during the entire creative process. In Germany, we have decided to merge all areas resulting from this deal into a separate company, Schubert Music Agency. Under the umbrella of SMA, we offer promotion (Hardbeat), are responsible for the German Alternative Charts (DAC), offer label services and were already acting as management for our own artist roster including acts such as Die Krupps, Joachim Witt, The Sinderellas and The Mystery of the Bulgarian Voices. Working with artists is always something very personal; in fact, management without emotional attachment is inconceivable. Therefore, it is especially important for us to prove to all of the artists who now come to us with Celsius, that besides the first-class service we provide, we also have the willingness to engage with them and to support them wherever necessary. Our in-ternational reach, with offices in 13 countries and the wide range of creative ser-vices we offer, will help that. From now on, we will continue to manage the entire roster under the Celsius brand. I am pleased that Markus Hartmann is helping us and the artists through a transitional phase”.

The parties have not disclosed the financial details of the deal. The central office for all business activities of the company will be Hamburg. The artists previously man-aged by SMA, such as Die Krupps, Joachim Witt, The Sinderellas and The Mystery Of The Bulgarian Voices, will now also become part of the Celsius management roster
