Schubert Music Publishing Germany started its relaunch in 2013 when Eric Burton, former A&R at AMV Talpa Publishing, joined forces with Andreas Schubert in Hamburg. In the beginning, with only two people, the company developed quickly, connecting the publishing activities with the businesses of Hardbeat Promotion and Celsius Management, then also installing the company’s own label SMILE, releasing various Schubert Music artists internationally. With the addition of Thomas Thyssen as A+R Manager in September 2018, SMP Germany was also officially being represented in Berlin with a second Germany-based office. At the end of 2019, Schubert Music joined forces with The Orchard as their world-wide distribution partner, and set up a new international label structure which includes labels like Restless (Mainstream/Pop), Mirabella (Schlager), Pump It Suzi (EDM/Dance), Atlantic Curve (Alternative), Freakwave (Post-Punk) etc. Henrik Guemoes, the former A&R Director at Sony Music’s RCA- and Ariola labels, became an integral part of the Schubert Music office in Berlin from January 2020 on and is spearheading the Pop-, Schlager- and Dance label departments while also working as an Senior A&R for publishing as well as in the newly implemented producer management division of Celsius.

Schubert Music Publishing signed Top 3 artists such as Punk-Rapper Swiss & die Andern, worldwide touring Electro act VNV Nation, social media sensation Fewjar, the German Dark Rock heroes of Mono Inc. — who successfully released their first #1 album this year —, Belgian award-winning trailblazers Whispering Sons, and contemporary Post-Punk’s finest Holygram. Also, successful Metal acts like Thundermother, Atlantean Kodex and UADA as well as legendary NDW icon Joachim Witt call Schubert Music Publishing Germany their home.

Atlantean Kodex

German Underground Metal Titans ATLANTEAN KODEX have returned from obscurity to redefine Epic Metal with their long-awaited second album, titled „The White Goddess - A grammar of poetic myth“. "'The White Goddess‘ is a triumph of heaviness and melancholy, a monument to the spirit of underground metal and the mythology of old Europe.“, says drummer Weiss. „Our sound has grown darker and heavier, like the world has grown darker and heavier in the past few years. At the same time our 70s roots and our love for Bathory and old Manowar are still there. Imagine Quorthon raping Uriah Heep while ,Into Glory ride‘ is blasting from an old tapedeck“, adds guitar player Trummer. Indeed the band has progressed much since their debut effort „The Golden Bough“. The sound is more mature, more dramatic, more bombastic. Everything on the album spells HUGE in capital letters. While the key coordinates old Manowar (Ross the Boss-era), Bathory (Twilight-era) and obscure US Metal (Fates Warning, Cirith Ungol, Warlord...) are still dominant, the band has manage to explore new ground with „The White Goddess“. This is one of the few albums, which will leave noone cold. Formed in 2005 ATLANTEAN KODEX immediately managed to conquer the center spot of the new European Epic Metal scene with their regressive and uncompromising musical approach. Already their first demo „The Pnakotic Demos“ (2007) put them in the spotlight of fans and journalists worldwide. Not only was the demo elected „Demo of the Month“ in Germany‘s leading magazine Rock Hard, but also it opened the doors to renowned festivals such as Keep it True (Germany) or Up the Hammers (Greece) for the band. With a stable line-up including singer Becker, guitarist Koch and Trummer, bassist Kreuzer and drummer Weiss the ATLANTEAN KODEX conquered the next level with their debut album „The Golden Bough“ in 2010. The album was hailed by fans and critics as one of the best German metal albums ever, taking „album of the month“-spots in basically all leading magazines and webzines, like Rock Hard (Germany), Heavy! (Germany), Metal Hammer (Greece) and scoring top scores all over the world. More live shows in the European festival circuit followed. Among others ATLANTEAN KODEX conquered the Hammer of Doom Festival and festivals in Ireland, England, Portugal, Greece and last not least the Rock Hard Festival (Germany). Now with „The White Goddess“ the band is ready to strike once more. And judging from the tremendous Epic Metal anthems on the album, the strike will be nothing but fatal. We are the Kodex We are invincible!

Joachim Witt

Joachim Witt is a legendary fixture in German music history, having played a decisive role in the creation and development of modern German music. After starting his career as the guitarist/singer in the 1970s Krautrock band Duesenberg. Witt embarked on a long and celebrated solo career as a singer and actor. He was one of the biggest names of the “Neue Deutsche Welle” (New German Wave) movements in the 80’s, as well as one of the originators of Neue Deutsche Harrte (German for “New German Hardness) a crossover of metal, industrial, electronics, and techno elements that developed in Germany during the mid-1990s. Witt has been noted as an influence on bands such as Rammstein, Eisbrecher, Oomph!, Unheilig, and many more. Over his prolific career, Witt has released 18 albums. Starting with his breakthrough 1980 album Silberblick, containing the single Der Goldene Reiter, he continues to create through such highlights as his 1998 smash Bayreuth I and the platinum DOM in 2012, with his last release from 2020, RUBEZAHLS RUCKKEHR. The album, being the successor to his previous work called RUBEZAHL (2018), in collaboration with Chris Harms, was financed through crowdfunding and is filled with loud riffs, epic hymns and superiority of Joachim Witt’s voice - with „The Return/die Ruckkehr” being the most recent single from the album, his last full length production is considered by many as one of his greatest.

Holygram

Upcoming releases always excite me. Especially when they have that eclectic, driven sound. And no one fits that bill better than the German band known as Holygram. Holygram has that unique blend of retro post-punk ‘electromania’ and modernistic shoegaze introspection. This is solid #indie in it’s truest form. Holygram will be touring Europe and US/Canada this fall with one of the biggest electronic bands on the planet, VNV Nation, as well as DE/VISION for the North American tour. They will hold two release shows – the first, in Cologne on Nov. 9, marks the end of their European tour, while the Los Angeles release show on Nov. 14 (at The Viper Room) kicks off their North American tour. About Holygram & ‘A Faction’ German post-punk shoegaze outfit Holygram present ‘A Faction’ – the second single off their long-awaited debut LP ‘Modern Cults’. Comprised of eleven tracks, this album will be released on CD and double vinyl, as well as digitally via Cleopatra Records, on November 9, 2018. This news follows the lead single ‘Signals’. Prior to that, the Cologne-based outfit released their self-titled EP in 2016. Holygram cleverly blends new wave and Krautrock with post-punk and shoegaze to achieve headstrong multi-layered bliss. This is a thoroughly contemporary homage to the sound of the ’80s with a resolute look to the future – the result is driving, dark and catchy. Produced by Maurizio Baggio, who also produced The Soft Moon’s ‘Deeper’ and ‘Criminal’ albums, this long-play was recorded at Cologne’s Amen Studios. The new video for ‘A Faction’ is produced by WE OWN YOU GmbH and directed by Jan-Peter Horns with animation by Alison Flora. Holygram is Patrick Blümel (vocals), Sebastian Heer (drums), Marius Lansing (guitars), Pilo Lenger (synthesizers) and Bennett Reimann (bass). Formed in 2015, the band’s approach to making music references the past, while remaining future-oriented. Hard-to-combine elements cleverly come together to become the soundtrack of a city that appears threatening in the twilight. The new album intensifies Holygram‘s contemplation of themes such as big cities, alienation and anonymity, hope and memories, love and identity. These reflections interact closely with the band’s unmistakable signature sound. Atmosphere oscillates between the brutal sounds of the big city and the fragility of the people that lose themselves in it – intelligently observed scenarios of a world falling apart in which individuals have long ceased to play a leading role. The band recently accompanied British synthpop legends OMD on their 2017 European tour and have played numerous festivals, including Mailfeld Derby, Wave-Gotik-Treffen and New Waves Day. Wrapping themselves in dense wafts of mist and cool lighting on stage, they’ve made quite a name for themselves on the live circuit. As of November 9, the ‘Modern Cults’ LP will be available everywhere, but can already be ordered via Cleopatra Records on CD and vinyl, and also digitally via Bandcamp. The album will be released in Europe via Oblivion / SPV.

Lucy Kruger

Lucy Kruger is a singer/songwriter from Cape Town, South Africa who recently moved to Berlin. Her performance focuses on the bare bones of the songs, a slow burning psychedelic folk that is both intimate and ambient. Dreamscapes set against drones allow the stories to drift and dive, fall asleep and come to life. On September 25th this year she will release her second full length album „Sleeping Tapes for Some Girls“ through Unique Records. The new album is made to be a quiet companion for restless evenings. The album was recorded just before Lucy moved from Cape Town to Berlin in May last year. She had been quietly spinning a soft web of songs and wanted to capture the feeling before leaving. The record was made with a very specific listener in mind. For the last few years Lucy has gone to bed listening to the stories and sounds of songwriters that have became close companions, both challenging and nurturing her and eventually gifting her rest. She wanted to give something of the same to those who might need it.  The arrangements are minimal and leave space for Lucy’s voice and guitar which are present throughout - reflecting, resisting and trying to reason with conflicted thought.
